2011 CMiC Innovation Award Winners


The Layton Companies

The Layton Companies, based in Utah, is a diversified holding company of engineering and construction-related firms including Layton Construction, Interior Construction Specialists, and CEntry. The Companyís core competencies include general contracting, construction management, and design-build. Although its corporate offices have been located in Utah for over 50 years, Layton completes work throughout the United States. Beyond performing construction management services, Layton operates a self-performing concrete division that is one of the largest in the Intermountain West. The Layton Companies is ranked as the 64th largest contractor in the U.S. by ENR Magazine.

Layton won 1st place in the 2011 CMiC Innovation Awards place for its American Express (Amex) Workflow Process. The Amex workflow process largely automates the accounts payable and expense approval process, resulting in lowered processing times, less fraud and lower overhead costs. The Amex Workflow Process yielded an annual dollar saving of roughly $150k, which translates to an outstanding ROI of over 4000%!

CMiC has donated the 1st place cash prize, on Laytonís behalf, to the Maliheh Free Clinic.





Webcor Builders

One of the largest volume General Contractors in California, Webcor Builders has over forty years of experience, working for clients such as Lucasfilm, California Academy of Sciences, eBay, Oracle Corporation, Symantec and Starwood Lodging. Webcor's history, experience and expertise has secured its position as a leading builder of large-scale, high-profile projects. Known for its visionary use of technology, Webcor offers cutting-edge methods and technologies that deliver significant value and benefits to their clients. Through industry and academic research, Webcor identifies the best emerging technologies and helps develop them into new tools, advancing the science of building.

Webcor won 2nd place in the 2011 CMiC Innovation Awards for its Primavera P6 schedule integrator, which enables bi-directional data transfer between CMiC and Primavera P6, as well as integration with issues, RFIs and daily journals. As a result, the P6 schedule integrator allows for reporting and data verification between both systems. The schedule intrgrator is projected to result in 2000 hours of time savings, over $200k in annual savings and an ROI of 823% over the life of the project.

CMiC has donated the 2nd place cash prize, on Webcor's behalf, to the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

DPR won 3rd place in the 2011 CMiC Innovation Awards for its Foremanís iPad App, which enables DPRís field based staff to access real time information and enter data from the work site. The Foreman App has improved data accuracy, set up the infrastructure for future functionality and empowered DPRís field staff to make informed decisions. The cost savings associated with the iPad App exceed $480k.

CMiC donated the 3rd place cash prize, on DPRís behalf, to the DPR Foundation.
